Mark your calendars: Austin’s New Year on December 31 is shaping up to be a can’t-miss community celebration. The free, family-friendly festival kicks off at 7 p.m. at Auditorium Shores with live music from headliners The Head and the Heart (plus local favorites like Chaparelle, Tameca Jones, and The Point), bites from local food trucks, and a brand-new drone show — capped off by fireworks to welcome 2026. Pet of the Week

Meet Chiquita — the sweetest companion waiting for her forever home!

This gentle girl is currently thriving in an apartment foster and has proven to be an easy, low-maintenance sweetheart.

🐾 Low-energy, calm, and content

✨ No accidents
✨ Not destructive
✨ Relaxed and well-behaved when left alone during a standard 9–5 workday

She adores people, enjoys short walks, sunbathing outside, and ending the day curled up on the couch watching TV with her foster mom. In the evenings she gets happy little bursts of playfulness — just enough to make you smile.

Chiquita recently stayed with a foster sitter who had children (ages 4 & 8) plus a young medium dog and a senior small dog — and she did wonderfully there too! Her easy-going, adaptable nature means she could fit beautifully into many different types of homes.

She originally came into the shelter with another dog she lived with previously, though he has since been adopted — now it’s her turn. 💛

Chiquita is proudly advocated for by ClassicCaninesATX, an organization dedicated to helping mature dogs find new beginnings and loving homes.

If you’re looking for a mellow companion with a whole lot of heart, Chiquita is your girl. 🐶💕
